We are so excited to introduce you to second chance entrepreneur Adam Martin, owner of Brushworx, LLC. Brushworx opened in May 2023 and is Kansas City’s go to for interior and exterior painting, bringing high value and top quality work to walls, ceilings, and cabinets.
Why are you passionate about your business?
The passion comes from what I do. To me it is a real art form. I’ve done work for contractors that don’t care about the quality of work. I’ve been misused by other contractors and I’m at the place in life where I want to take charge and lead this industry my way.
What are you most proud of in regards to your business thus far?
I am really proud of the support the business has had and our early success. The positive feedback I’m receiving from my clients has led to me being asked to do jobs outside of the scope of my work. They’re just so impressed by my work!
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far as an entrepreneur?
Slow down and take your time. Make sure you have a plan for everything. There’ve been times I’m rushing and forget things or don’t have the things I need, so I like to plan ahead.
What advice would you give to someone currently in prison who would like to do something positive with their life when they get home?
They should start educating themselves about what they are passionate about and be more self-aware so they can identify those goals. Also, stay positive and find good, healthy social environments. Place yourself around positive people.
Outside of your business, what is something that you love doing?
I like to read, do woodwork, and I have a 3d printer I’m figuring out.
What does success look like for you and your business?
Being able to maintain a profit while hiring people and paying them well. Growing a business that my community can count on that can take me to the next level in life. This is just the beginning.
